FreightWaves—TruckTech Podcast

During Manifest 2024 in Las Vegas, I was pleased to moderate a fascinating conversation about the regulatory and collaboration scene regarding EV and AV trucks. Our panelists were Sean Waters of Daimler Truck North America, Ariel Wolf of Venable LLP / AVIA, Matt McLelland of Covenant, and Matt Schrap of Harbor Trucking Association. Its challenging enough to engineer practical and safe EV and AV systems, but when you get into the regs, OY! Despite the daunting challenges, key paths forward were illuminated. And the guys were pretty entertaining.

Moderator - “The Evolution of the Truck and the Impact It Has on Drivers”
February 1, 2023
As moderator for The Evolution of the Truck and the Impact It Has on Drivers, I planned and organized this panel to examine the prospects for automated trucking and related driver factors.
Panelists Eric Fuller, CEO of US Xpress, Inc., Brett Suma, CEO of LoadSmith, and Graham Doorley, CEO of Terraline engaged in a lively exchange that bottom-lined two main themes: a) while the uncertain economy is slowing tech development, automated trucking has the momentum needed for real-world implementation to happen in the next few years and b) today’s truck drivers will have a job for as long as they want it, with automated trucks addressing the massive driver shortage facing the freight-moving industry.
